Motspur Park Gasholders development
I appreciate residents sharing their concerns about the Motspur Park Gasholders development proposals and am listening carefully.
From the feedback I've received from many residents, I understand the key concerns include:
- Traffic and road safety - particularly the impact of construction vehicles, concerns about access routes via West Barnes Lane and Kingshill Avenue, and the reported 25-minute queues affecting the 58 bus service
- Parking provision - the limited parking spaces and the potential knock-on effect on surrounding streets
- Pressure on local services - GP surgeries, schools, and other infrastructure serving approximately 1,300 additional residents, despite a planned £7m contribution to local infrastructure
- Construction disruption - the impact of 82 HGV deliveries per day during the construction phase (noise, dust and site management)
- Scale of development - concerns about whether 586 homes is appropriate for this site and the local area, as well as the height of the buildings, levels of sustainability, and the environmental impact.
Please be assured that I have heard these concerns loud and clear, and they reflect the issues that many of your neighbours have also raised with me.
I have already met with the developers in person to raise these concerns directly. I made clear to them that any development on this site must properly address the impact on our local community, particularly around traffic management, parking, construction disruption, and ensuring adequate infrastructure capacity.
I will continue to engage actively with the developers throughout this process to ensure that local residents' voices are heard and concerns are addressed. This is not a one-off conversation - I will maintain pressure to ensure the community's needs are prioritised.
I am also working closely with councillors from Merton, Sutton, and Kingston to ensure we take a holistic, cross-borough approach to this development. The impact of this proposal extends beyond a single borough boundary, and it's essential that we coordinate our response and ensure all affected communities have a voice in the process.
Given the Government’s housing targets, some development will take place on brownfield sites. However, this does not mean we have no influence. What we can do - and what I am committed to doing - is ensuring that if development does go ahead, it is done in a way that:
- Minimises disruption to existing residents
- Provides adequate infrastructure and services
- Addresses traffic and parking concerns effectively
- Delivers genuine community benefits
- Holds developers to account on their commitments
- Focuses on the environment and green space
I would strongly encourage you to submit your comments directly to Kingston Council through the official planning process here, with the reference: 25/02562/FUL. Your individual response will be considered by the planning officer when making their recommendation. This closes on Friday 21st November 2025.
Please don't hesitate to contact me at paul.kohler.mp@parliament.uk if you have further concerns or would like to discuss this matter in more detail.
